| Patient Letter: "Grateful for help after stroke" |
On Sept. 13, 2009, our family vacation detoured and was spent at Atlantic General Hospital in Ocean City, MD. Dean, my husband, suffered a stroke the first night of vacation. Our lives changed that day. Our return to Pennsylvania and Dean's new home for a few months, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, was a relief, but at the same time we knew the journey to recovery had just begun. Thanks to the incredible staff at HealthSouth, Dean was able to return home to us in November and was able to walk and care for himself with minimal assistance. The thanks we owe to them cannot be expressed enough. Dean still goes to therapy at HealthSouth and continues to improve day by day. Again, thanks to the staff at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital. We cannot go without saying "thank you" to all our family members, neighbors and community for all the prayers, help and support we have received. We also thank Dean's employer, Bimbo Bakeries, for their understanding and my co-workers at Crescent Industries for participating in the silent auction. We extend our thoughts and prayers to you and yours. |

| Boy Scouts of America Service Project at HealthSouth |
| HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of York announced that on June 12, 2010, Boy Scouts of America Troop 20 - York, Pennsylvania completed their annual service project on hospital grounds. Joined by hospital staff and their troop leader, the scouts (ages 11-13) demolished and rebuilt large wooden planters in the patio area at the hospital. “On behalf of the staff, patients, family members, and visitors to our campus, we would like to express our appreciation of the troop’s generous donation of time and manpower to rebuild the planters. Our therapists employ many different techniques to aid our patients on their road to recovery. With the generous support from the scouts, we will be able to add outdoor gardening to the occupational therapy schedule for our patients,” said Mark Freeburn, CEO of HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of York. The planters display engraved plaques recognizing Boy Scouts of America Troop 20 for their contribution. HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of York is a 90-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital that provides a higher level of rehabilitative care to patients who are recovering from stroke and other neurological disorders, brain and spinal cord injury, amputations, orthopedic, cardiac and pulmonary conditions. Accredited by The Joint Commission, the facility is located at 1850 Normandie Drive, York, PA 17408 in West Manchester Township. |
| Kudos to HealthSouth Therapy at Home |
From the family of one of our home health patients: "The staff are EXCELLENT! They treated dad almost as a family member and he loved working with them. All respected dad's ability to deal with his lack of vision and therapy continued successfully, despite his limitations. I don't think dad would have come back so fast without HealthSouth's tremendous degree of care. Thank you!" HealthSouth Therapy at Home provides skilled nursing, with physical, occupational and speech therapy throughout York County. Call (717) 767-8772 for more information! |
